Come down from the mountains to the shifting desert light.
Couple of days ago, Apple unveiled its next Mac operating system called macOS Mojave. Pronounced Moh-hah-ve.
The biggest feature (one of the many) is the new Dark Mode. The whole Apple community have been asking for this feature to be added to the macOS for a couple of years now and it’s finally here.
Select the Update Now button to download, install and sign in to the latest version of Skype. To update Skype on Mac from within the app: Sign into Skype.
Not only that the new wallpaper which takes a little credit from the shifting sea waves waves of Google Pixel 2’s dynamic wallpaper, shows this beautiful desert that changes along with the time of the day.
You’ll get to try it once I show you how can install the new macOS Mojave onto your Mac next. 🙂
But wait. ✋? (You might want to read this first)
Do know that macOS Mojave is still not a 100% finished product as it is still in Developer Beta. You can still try it and play around with all it’s new features as it is almost done with exceptions of maybe a slight battery drain or an occasional frozen app which still need to get fixed. The beta you’ll be downloading is the latest beta version which is the macOS 10.14 Mojave. I will be updating this article once the new update comes in the fall.
Also before you can jump into installing macOS Mojave onto your Mac, you need to check if your Mac is capable of supporting Mojave.
These are the Macs that you can install macOS 10.14 Mojave on:
- MacBook (Early 2015 or newer)
- MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)
- MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer)
- Mac mini (Late 2012 or newer)
- iMac (Late 2012 or newer)
- iMac Pro (2017)
- Mac Pro (Late 2013, plus mid 2010 and mid 2012 models with recommend Metal-capable GPU)
Alright let’s jump right in.
How to Install macOS Mojave: 5 Steps
Make sure that you have backed up your Mac just in case if you ever wish to downgrade from Mojave to High Sierra. Here’s a great step-by-step guide by Apple.
Step 1:Â Go ahead open up your web browser on your Mac and jump onto to developer.apple.com/download. Enter your Apple developer account and then tap Sign In.
Help! I don’t have an Apple Developer Account.
If you don’t have an Apple Developer account, here is the download link:
- Download macOS Mojave 10.14 beta (.dmg)
You’ll find that a .DMG file will download. You can jump straight to Step 3Â below, where I’ll show you how you can run it using the Mac App Store.
Step 2:Â Now if you’re using a Developer account, once you’ve signed in just scroll down and click on the blue Download button for macOS Mojave 10.14 beta. The beta profile will now download to your Mac.
Step 3:Â Great! Now just open up your Downloads and click on the .DMG file that just got downloaded. Double-click on the file to install it.
Step 4:Â Once it has been installed, your Mac App Store will automatically open. Now just hit the blue Download button and this will start installing macOS Mojave Beta onto your Mac.
Help! I don’t see the developer beta in my Updates list.
If the developer beta does not show up for you on the Updates list, just reboot your Mac and then open up your Mac App Store back and click on Updates again.

Then just wait for the developer beta update to finish downloading. You can keep check the status of the download by jumping into your Updates. 🙂
Step 5:Â Once the macOS Beta has been downloaded, you’ll be asked to install it. So like always, just click on Continue, Agree to the Terms and Conditions, and then finally hit the Install button.
Note
Your Mac will restart to install macOS. So hang in there, go ahead and treat yourself to Chipotle in the mean time.

Really disheartening that there are no replies on this. This is an excellent question. They're asking you to download and install the latest server version software to update the OS, but you can't update the OS without the newest server version. It makes mention to download and install OSX 10.10 or 10.11 first, but how can I do that when Apple has cut off the ability to download and install legacy OS?
Speaking to enterprise support as I write this and their response is we'll need to go from 10.7 to 10.9 then from 10.9 to 10.10 then from 10.10 to 10.12.
The first question they ask is, have you EVER installed 10.9 or have any account with 10.9 in its purchase history since it is no longer available in the Apple store? Since I do not, they're going through their systems to see if they can dig this out anywhere (if they don't, what I'm getting here is that if you use Apple for your server then 'lol' on your part). The easiest way to migrate a server is to upgrade, backup, and restore from backup on the target machine. Can't do that if you can't update. The alternative here is to rebuild your new mac mini from scratch. What could go wrong there?
So, what they basically just told me is that you need to scour for a 10.9 installation from 3rd party sites and pray you find one because Apple doesn't have any way to retrieve a downloader. I was about to demand for a developer, but found an account myself that actually had 10.9. Currently working on the incremental updates, but if you're not so lucky, you just might be SOL. The account I'm using to pull the downloader is very inappropriate to be using in this situation since it's from one client going onto another client machine. They have assured me the client account will NOT be tied into this mac as OS updates/installs don't tie in accounts, only software (if you need to do it this way, make sure you sign out of the app store before installing the update of the server).
This is a nightmare. Thank you Apple.
